Ian Thorpe.

When one hears that name, cheers and gold medals immediately come to mind.

But the former Olympic swimming champion’s personal life has been overshadowed by darkness of late.

The 31 year old was admitted to a Sydney hospital last week, reportedly for treatment of his decade long battle with depression and alcohol abuse.

After having returned home last Friday, this morning police were called to a Panania home, where it is reported that Thorpe was ‘detained’ and taken to hospital.
