But the former Olympic swimming champion’s personal life has been overshadowed by darkness of late and questions have returned surrounding his sexuality.
Ian has now opened up about his sexuality in a new interview.
Speaking to British television personality Michael Parkinson, the 31-year-old sportsman has reportedly revealed that he is gay after years of denial.

In February the swimmer was admitted to a Sydney hospital, reportedly for treatment of his decade long battle with depression and alcohol abuse.
After returning home, police were called to a Panania home days later, where it was reported that Thorpe was ‘detained’ and taken to hospital.
