Thousands of One Direction fans across the globe commenced mourning when Zayn Malik left the extremely successful British boy band recently.

The 22-year-old decided to make his red carpet debut since his departure from the band at the Asian Awards in London over the weekend.

Giving a nod to his mixed Pakistani and British heritage, the rising star took to the stage with a gracious acceptance speech after winning the Outstanding Achievement In Music award.

‘I’d like to thank my mum and dad for making me Asian,’ he said, after he was introduced on stage by music producer friend Naughty Boy.

Zayn’s father, Yaser Malik, is English-Pakistani while his mother, Patricia, is English.
