‘THE ORIGINALS’ EPISODE 2 REVIEW

With two of our fave home grown hotties Phoebe Tonkin and Claire Holt repping us Aussies in Hollywood in new drama ‘The Originals’, ‘I Am Starstruck’ reader Jasmine Leigh reviews the second episode.

With the second episode of the Originals come to pass, viewers finally got to see new issues arise and an in depth look at character relationships.

The new episode, “House of The Rising Son,” lived up to cast members Claire Holt (Rebekah Mikaelson) and Charles Michael Davis’s (Marcel) description of the new spin off being “extremely dark and sexy,” however thankfully not in True Blood fashion.

In Tuesday’s episode we got to see Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Rebekah reunite and strengthen their very frayed relationship over the realisation that Klaus had just staked and handed over their older brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies) to a mighty powerful and mysterious entity called Davina (Danielle Campbell) whom can also be known as Marcel’s magic detector and trump card for a place in Marcel’s clique so-to-speak.

With a weapon like Davina, I’m sure I’m not the only one anxiously awaiting another Mikaelson to find permanent refuge in a satin lined coffin.

Although some could have argued that the reunion happened far to quickly, after it was only half a year ago that Klaus was snapping Rebekah’s neck and telling her that she meant nothing to him.

A lighter side to the episode was Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Rebekah’s almost immediate friendship, which I assume to be mainly due to Rebekah’s ‘family matters’ motto. The relationship came as a delight to those who alike myself have watched Tonkin and Holt from their Cleo Setori and Emma Gilbert friendship.

It was good to finally see Rebekah and Hayley gain themselves a trustful ally, as Rebekah saved Hayley from Night-Walkers and Hayley saved Rebekah from the ‘Original Vampire’ version of cryogenics. Let’s just hope that Rebekah finds a way to destroy those “couple of antique stake knifes,” before Klaus gets a chance to know they’re missing.

As we came to believe that Hayley’s pregnancy would play a major part in the Original’s plot, for the first few episodes it seems as if the only thing the ‘bun in the oven’ is going to do is establish character relationships and dictate friend from foe, that is until Marcel and Davina find out.
